TPO

Endocrine System · Thyroid Hormone Synthesis & Action

Does a TPO genetic finding mean I have thyroid antibodies?

TPO encodes thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme that helps incorporate iodine during thyroid-hormone production. A DNA variant and an anti-TPO antibody result measure different things, so one cannot substitute for the other.
